An Awareness Programme on Food Adulteration was held at Gonal Village of Ballari Taluk on 18/08/2018 by the Department of Chemistry. The students have demonstrated easy methods of detecting adulteration in daily consuming food grains and powders. Five different teams of students successfully conducted adulteration detecting experiments in a effective way. The first team consisting of Ankita.J., and Mariyappa explained about how to trace out adulteration in coffee and tea powder by showing simple experiments. The second team comprising of Vaishnavi and Gurrappa have shown the methods of investigating of various wastes mixed in raagi, turmeric powder, chilli powder and atta. The third team which consisted of Shreema and Ranjith Kumar.T., have demonstrated the art of detecting white powder mixed in the salt.   Chetan and Akshata, Members of fourth team, have presented their presentation about the ways of detecting adulteration of plastic in rice and sugar, artificial colour in peas and papaya seeds in black pepper. The last team consisting of Sahana and Prabhu Kumar.P., demonstrated the methods of finding out adulteration in beetle nuts, smashed potatoes in ghee, water, urea and starch in milk.

Prof.S.M.Sudharani, Head, Department of Chemistry, Dr.B.Nagaraja Reddy, Dr.D.Nagesa Sastry, Dr.T.R. Ravikumar Naik, Sri.Nagesh Patil and other faculty in the department guided the students and took them to the village for presenting demonstration on food adulteration. This programme has received a very good response from the representatives of people and the villagers. Before concluding the programme an arrangement was made for open discussion. The villagers interacted with the students and clarified their doubts.
