About the Department:
The Department of Commerce was started in Veerashaiva College, Ballari, to teach Commerce at UG level in the year 1950 when Commerce Education and Training Programmes were offered in India as Vocational courses to meet the requirements of business and industry. At this crux of time Madras University, Madras, munificently gave its permission with the assurance of affiliation to start the Department of Commerce course in Veerashaiva College, Ballari.
Sri.Venkataramana Rao, Sri.Narashimha Rao and Sri.Shankar Rao were the initial faculty members of the Department of Commerce, who nourished and flourished the Department with their commitment and dedication over the years to cater to and meet the needs of the people of Hyderabad Karnataka Region and other neighbouring districts of Andhra Pradesh.
Thousands of students were trained and groomed and moulded as successful businessmen and independent entrepreneurs in the course of its endeavours. The department is always looking forward to update its courses from time to time to meet the needs of the business environment. In 1994–95 the department started Tax Procedure and Practice (T.P.P.) as a new course. This course is designed and offered for the first time for the entire Karnataka State. Later on, in the subsequent years B. Com. Computers (Vocational) course was offered to fill the gap of digital devoid in the student community.
The Department of Commerce is always at lead to organise events like market-fairs, educational and industrial tours to expose the students to practical knowledge of the business world. Regular special lectures are organised by inviting the well known scholars of the various universities and conducting seminars and symposia for better exposure to their subjects of learning. Veerashaiva College wielded with a potential Placement Cell through which regular campus selections are conducted with the collaboration of many reputed multi-national companies. In every event of campus interviews commerce students are excelling students of other departments and securing jobs.
The Department of Commerce has crossed another mile-stone in the year 2011-12 by staring M.Com. P.G.course to meet the needs of students of this region. The M.Com. P.G. course has organised a unique event titled “Search for Talents” by inviting students of various colleges in November, 2014. The Department of Commerce is never satisfied with its achieved success but miles to go ahead.
