The Department of Sociology was established in 1986 by the then Principal Dr.H.Basanna. Later on, Prof.N.Eshwarappa, a great academician and a noted administrator had given impetus for the development of the subject in the College. The contribution and continuous support of these two great personalities for the growth of Sociology at Veerashaiva College is incredible. The department was started with just five students only. In the subsequent years, 80% of the Arts students in the total admission opted sociology as one of the optional subjects. The qualified and rich experienced faculty in the department contributed to the increase of strength.
